It seems to have been “one of those days”. I really hate to start this post off with classroom behavior, but here goes. I am finding that many of the students are really working hard and their behavior is very good. The problem is that there are a few students in every block that are interferring with instruction and practice. I have to redirect behavior at a constant rate and due to this, instruction time suffers. Parents if you could take a few minutes and discuss with your student their behavior in class, along with your expectations, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
This week again is going to be a busy one in 8th grade ELA. Today the students took the MAZE test which is part of the AIMS Web test that will be given this Wednesday and continued each day until all students have completed it. The test is designed to measure every student’s lexile level and thus give a more accurate picture of what their reading level is. This is nothing that can be studied in advance. It will be given individually, with each student reading several passages aloud to me. I will pass on the results as soon as I have them.
Starting today I will post the agenda for the day and here it is:
- Bell Work – proofread for capitalization and punctuation errors
- MAZE Test
- The Adventures of the Speckled Band – pages 115 – 119 and discussion
- Text Features –
- Text Features Scavenger Hunt – Due tomorrow textfeaturescavhunt
If practice is not completed in class it is the students’ responsibility to complete it at home.
